Executive Chef: Don Schell

A Brief Bio

Don was born in Chibougamau, a small Northern Quebec community, in a family of post war German immigrants. He studied Culinary Arts at the Champlain Regional College in Quebec City, where he graduated in 1975. Don completed his chef apprenticeship at Chez Guido, a famous French cuisine restaurant in Quebec City. Don has been in the Toronto restaurant scene since 1980, working for some of the most prestigious restaurants and caterers, that not only provided innovative and interesting food galore, but became trend setters of their time in the city. Among those fortunate venues, the Puffin-Pasta and Seafood and David Wood Foods Shop come to mind. Don has had the opportunity to cook for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, as well as former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and wife Mila.

At Babaluu on Yorkville, Don created a unique cuisine featuring the exotic food of the Latin Americas. With A la Carte Catering he directed and designed some of the most ambitious and complex catering functions ever hosted by the Roy Thompson Hall, Royal Ontario Museum and Saint Lawrence Center for the Performing Arts.

In Stratford, the Shakespearean theater capital of Canada, Don worked as executive chef at the Keystone Alley Cafe, catering to the sophisticated palates of the artistic community, including Loreena McKennitt and Timothy Finley, William Hutt and Martha Henry, Al Waxman and wife Sarah.

Before coming to Mysteriously Yours, Don was the executive chef of the Fish House on Toronto's Front Street.

Don has been the culinary talent of Global TV for 8 years, appearing on the News At Noon and First Up.
For the past 3 years he has appeared on a weekly basis on Rogers TV's Day Time.
